Prayer Requests

Quite often people ask me if there is anything specific that I would like to be prayed for. Usually I don't have anything particular, but I appreciate their prayers for me in general. However, now I have special requests for prayer.

1 Pray that I might not bring dishonor to the name of God until my journey is completed. He is so worthy of our service and worship.

2. Pray for my dear wife Lena, that she would be given the strength, patience, and grace to take care of me.

3. Pray that I might continue to experience the peace, comfort and hope that are the fruits of the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.

4. Pray that I may be able to cope with the fear and anxiety that comes as I deal with breathing issues and choking episodes.

  1. Just to let you know they are exactly the things we pray for you and Lena before you even told us! Our hearts go out to both of you in this long and difficult journey. Lena must be exhausted and I can only slightly imagine how anxious it must be for you Jack to have swallowing/choking episodes. I think it'd be like drowning. I still can't get over how you are still able to communicate with your computerized gadgets. What a wonderful blessing that invention is! So nice to still be able to "hear your voice". Your are often in our minds and prayers. With love, Ron, Lorraine and Sarah

  3. Dear Jack,
Even though this is becoming more and more difficult for you and Lena, we know God is and will be with you to the end.
You have not complained. Only you and the family know, really, how difficult it really is.
You have been most gracious in your response to this dreadful disease. To God be the glory.
I thank you so much for sharing. I have been touched by your honest and open blogs which I receive in my email. It has been a learning curve for me. Who knows how many other lives you have touched by your blogs?
Only God knows. May he bless you as He carries you through these days, one day at a time.
(makes me think of the chorus, below)
My heart goes out to you, Lena and all the family. I pray you will receive everything you can possibly need by His gracious hand.

One day at a time, sweet Jesus, that's all I'm asking from You
Give me the strength to do everyday what I have to do
Yesterday's gone, sweet Jesus, and tomorrow may never be mine
So for my sake, teach me to take one day at a time

  4. God keep you and your family in the palm of His hand. So thankful for our all knowing Lord. Only he knows why these things happen and leaves us with His comforting words. May this bring you comfort 'Surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age' Mathew 28:20

  6. Dear Jack and Lena, thank you so much for sharing this. Prayer binds us together at the throne of grace doesn't it? We bring your petitions to our Father frequently. It has been such a blessing and confirmation of God's grace to witness the spiritual strength God gives you. He is promising to carry you through this to Himself!

  8. Having been the daughter of an ALS fighter I know the battle is hard and takes its toll on the victim and their families. I will pray that the your faith will keep the devil at bay in your lives and that your wife will wake strong and ready each day. It is a testament to your love story when we have to care for those we love. I'm sure you have much help and I often wonder what I might do for you, knowing exactly what your family is enduring and understanding your physical changes, but I will pray for you.

  10. Jack and Lena,

Though we have never met, and you would not even know of me, I want you to know that I am praying for you as you travel this difficult road. I heard about this blog over a year ago and have been following it since. Your testimony, your faith, and that of your family, has been both an encouragement and challenge for me. I thank God that He has enabled you to share Him with those who read this. May God grant you both the strength you need, and His perfect peace to quiet your fears and anxieties. God Bless!
