Rear-View Mirror

The saying is well known: "hindsight is 20 - 20". Looking back, things are very clear, but looking ahead, the way is unknown and foggy at best. This can be applied to many areas of life: health, finances, economy, business, employment, safety and security, politics, relationships, etc. The spiritual destination of every human being is abundantly clear. The road ahead leads to eternal life with Christ in heaven, or to eternal death with Satan in hell. There is no third option.

When I look into the rear - view mirror at the road behind me for the last two and a half years, then I see ups and downs, bumps and potholes, good days and bad days, joy and sorrow, the stuff of living with a terminal illness. But through it all, I have been upheld and sustained by my heavenly Father who has walked with me every step of the way.

Though the road ahead is unknown to me (good thing too), one thing I am sure of (two things actually), and that is my final destination and Who promised to go with me. "I will never leave you nor forsake you." (Hebrews 13:5)

Jack.

    Hello Jack,
Your post today made me think of a text that has brought me great comfort in tough times in my life: Deut. 8:2-5, and the verses surrounding it. Moses is speaking to the Israelites, and they are "looking back" together over their years in the desert. Not once did God leave them or forsake them, and in those forty years their clothes did not wear out and their feet did not even swell! God does carry us through the deserts of our lives, and even blesses us in them. You are in our thoughts and prayers as you travel this road. May God give you strength for each new day. His mercies are new every morning - Great is Thy faithfulness!
    Sincerely, Rebecca Bredenhof

p.s. While in Myrtle Beach over March Break, we met your daughter Sarah and her beautiful family. My girls had a wonderful time playing with Mya (sorry if I spelled that wrong), and I thoroughly enjoyed chatting with Sarah. It sure is a small world! :)

  3. Hello Jack:
You are never far from our thoughts and regularly in our prayers. You have often encouraged me with your posts. There is nothing more important than keeping our eyes heavenward and thanking the Lord often for the many blessings He bestows on us and accepting those things we do not see as blessings. We pray you continue to feel the Lord's presence guiding everything in your life. Praying also for Lena and your children.
